The easiest way that parents can explain to their kids about divorce

For as long as I can remember, I have never seen my parents together in the house or even anywhere. The only times when they used to see each other eye to eye is when my father came to pick me up. This happened every two weeks and I would spend the whole weekend with my father and then on Sunday night he would take me back to my mother. This went on for a long time and I never understood why they were never together. I saw other kids’ parents going home together and that is when I decided to ask both of them where my parents were and they were baffled by this question. They asked me why I thought they were not my parents and I told them that they do not live together like other parents. They tried to explain it to me as gentle as possible. Told me that they loved me and due to father visitation rights, my father who loved me as equally as my mother came to pick me up most weekends. They told me that they could not live together any more but that did not mean that they were not my parents.
